asu victoria & tasmania
The Australian Services Union Victorian and Tasmania Authorities & Services Branch needed to provide a higher level of engagement with their members through their website. The existing site was dated and not able to incorporate much of the technology needed to drive modern websites.
The main aims of the new site were:
- Allow people to join the union directly from the website
- Create a site that members would find simple to navigate
- Engage with members through a visually appealing site
- Link into social media activities
Process
itsimple worked closely with the ASU through the design and development of the site to ensure key stakeholders were happy with the outcome. Due to the functionality required and the amount of content, the process involved many detailed wireframes and design mock-ups to reach the final site.
Execution
The goal of allowing people to join directly from the website was achieved with the creation of a secure encrypted signup form. itsimple made sure the form was very user friendly, adding advanced validation and notification functionality to alert users of incomplete areas.
Details of the 15,000 existing ASU members were imported to the site and unique login details were sent automatically from the website after launch. Functionality was also developed to allow members to update their information instantly and securely, rather than having to request changes and wait for them to be implemented, as they had to do previously.
A mobile optimised version of the site was also developed with simple homepage navigation that allows fast access to the relevant industry areas. It also features a rotating image banner that replicates the main site’s homepage. This gives a quick overview of important information that the union wants to communicate, even to members on the move.
As many of the ASU members are mobile it was important that some of the new functionality that was introduced to the main site was included on the mobile web version. Members can now sign-up via their smartphone or iPad.
